Description
Thales Land & Joint Division designs and manufactures a series of METSMAN meteorological sensors and systems to meet the requirements of real time ground-level meteorological information.
Applications include Main Battle Tank Fire Control Systems, NBC Hazard Prediction Systems, Multi-Launch Rocket Systems and for any application that requires local meteorological information.
In NBC roles the Metsman has been updated in the form of the MkII.
The Metsman MkII offers a more modular design with improved reliability, measurement performance and additional capabilities.
Military Standard
METSMAN has been designed to meet the stringent requirements of military operations giving Mean Time Between Failures of up to 29000 hours depending on the selected configuration.
Other than cursory visual checks of the sensor by the user there are no maintenance tasks at ‘first line’ during normal operation.
The use of advanced ultrasonic resonance technology to measure wind speed ensures reliable operation under the most severe climatic and environmental conditions.
NBC DEFENCE
The threat from biological and chemical agents on today’s battlefield is real and the provision of accurate meteorological information is an essential element in the process of determining the plume direction, width and the threat to ground forces and civil population.
The ability to implement vital protective measures can only be achieved when accurate and immediate meteorological information is provided to the hazard prediction and reporting software.
The METSMAN MkII System has been specifically designed to provide meteorological information required by computer models such as BRACIS in real time.
The following parameters are measured: –
- Wind Speed ● Wind Direction Relative ● Wind Direction True (Compass Option) ● Ambient Temperature ● Relative Humidity (Option) ● Ambient Pressure
Metsman Systems
The Metsman MkII can be provided as part of a configurable integrated system ‘Minimet’ which can combine options of: –
- Static Mast ● Vehicle Mounted Mast ● Display and Processing Unit ● Interconnecting Cables ● Ground Temperature Sensor (Option) ● Laptop Display
DATA DISPLAY
The meteorological data can optionally be displayed on a laptop PC or DPU using a windows based software display package.
The system has the ability to measure wind speed and direction whilst on the move.
Mounting Arrangements Metsman can be either freestanding (tripod mounted) or mounted on a vehicle in a variety of configurations which include folding brackets and telescopic masts.
